The three American couples shown here–Luther and Louisa Gulick, Albert and Susan Sturges, and Benjamin and Lydia Snow–were the pioneers of the mission to Micronesia. They arrived with two Hawaiian families in 1852 to begin work on Pohnpei and Kosrae.
